Hello. My name is Massimo Sandal , a fellow born in 1981 in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy, one of the most deliciously misanthropic places of the world.
I then moved ten years to Bologna to pursue my M.Sci. and Ph.D. I then lived in Cambridge , England from 2009 to 2011, and now I am back in Italy.
My Erdos number is 6.
What do I do
Good question. Since childhood, I always wanted to be a scientist, and I have been one until recently: I came in Cambridge as a postdoc at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge. My work has been until now focused on the biophysics of protein folding and aggregation.
However for reasons better explained here I am currently in a pause from academia. Nevertheless, I still want to keep in touch with science in a way or the other. I made a living by being a developer for Linguamatics, a software company specialized in biomedical text mining, and now I'd like to dip my toes into science journalism.
What I do too
Apart from work, my most cherished wastes of time are:
- Reading a lot of books
- Writing software (mostly using Python)
- Editing Wikipedia
- Doodling with computer stuff (Linux-based mostly)
- Writing (not so much time for that lately)
- Cycling through The Fens
In general, I waste too much time on the Internet.
